Abstract

The purpose of this exercise is to investigate how parents experience interactions with nursery staff when they deliver and collect their children. Data has been gathered from a survey undertaken with two different nursery groups. This groups were from two separate nurseries. We observed that a significant proportion of verbal interactions between parents and staff happens when parents deliver and collect their children. These interactions can most certainly be interpreted in a different manner by the staff and the parents. We have worked with the theorical aspects of relationships, communication and parent cooperation, with an emphasis on previous research in the field of delivery and collection of children (Solberg, 2019; Velde, 2016). We wished to gain a deeper insight in how parents experience encounters with nursery staff in their daily encounters with the nurseries we surveyed. In the surveys the parents were able to give answers on a points-based scale, and also to provide written comments to expand on factors that created a meaningful experience in their interactions with the staff at the nursery. The main findings of the survey show that the parents are largely satisfied with how they are received at the nursery. We also discovered thar parents had a clear desire that new digital systems should not become a replacement for direct feedback from contact with nursery staff.
