In this bachelor thesis, we investigated what children aged 4-5 years old prefer to play with in the outdoor area in the kindergarten. We believed this is important to investigate because children spend much time outside in the kindergarten. In our investigations, we have used å multi-method that looks at children’s perspectives. This method is called The Mosaic Approach, and it consists of several elements. We have chosen to use three of these elements, as we believe they can strengthen our problem statement in a good way. Previous research has found that most kindergartens mainly have traditional play equipment available, but that children prefer a more dynamic environment. Our findings indicate that children like to play in nature-based areas and material, such as the forest, water, sand, sticks and pinecones. But they also like playing with some of the traditional outdoor play equipment, such as the slide, the sandbox and the swings. As such, what we found is in line with previous research.en_US
