To learn about climate and climate change is an important goal in the curriculum for Norwegian schools. Received with permission from the Norwegian Directorate for Education and Training, Firda upper secondary school began offering a pilot version of a new subject called Climate and the environment in 2016. The motivation behind the pilot program has been to develop an in-depth subject about climate change, its reasons and consequences. This study presents different challenges faced by teachers and students in the development of a new school subject. The article approaches the following questions: Why did the students choose this subject? What do they think about climate and environmental issues? What are the challenges with cross-curricular teaching and the lack of a textbook? The article also discusses Climate and the environment as a new subject in the Norwegian curriculum.en_US
