This assignment will address the transition to step-tax in 2016, and how it will impact the society in relation to the former taxation system. We start off by presenting our thesis and the background for our choice of subject. We explain why we were motivated to explore this exact subject and present the delimitations of our assignment in order to find the most relevant conclusion. We also present the sources and methodology that were used throughout the paper. The main part starts with theory explaining our taxation system to increase the comprehension of our subject. It contains an extensively explanation of the basic principles of the Norwegian taxation-laws, and explains how the tax settlement is calculated. We will also look into the differences between our new and former step-tax system, and the reasons behind the transition. We start our analysis by looking into the total effect of the transition to step-tax. We will look into different cases of individuals with different levels of income, in order to get an insight of how their personal finances will be affected of the general change. Afterwards we will outline the overall changes that were introduced by law in 2016 in relations to 2015. To get an overall picture of the total effect we will compare it with the case results, where we only took account of the changes in step-taxations. The analysis continues by introducing statistical information about the number of people being affected by the transition. We conclude the assignment by giving a summary of our findings and answering our thesis, in accordance of the effects the transition will have and potential consequences for personal taxpayers and the society in general.nb_NO
