dc.description.abstractThe theme of this assignment is network and career development, and we will try to find out what social network is, and how a social network can affect a career development. The assignment is divided into five main chapters; theory, method selection, data presentation, data analysis and conclusion. We have collected relevant literature from HVL´s own library, but also other libraries in the country. In addition, we have used the Internet to find articles and research reports on the subject. Upon obtaining data we have used the qualitative interview as a method. Our conclusion is divided into the two main questions in our assignment. At the first question “what is social network”, all of our informants agreed that they saw network as an access to resources they didn’t already have. They also agreed that networking was one of the most important tools one had in a career relation, and that one could accomplish more if you are a member of a network. Our second question was “how can social network affect career development”. We found it to be very important. Our informants believed that through a network, they could gain access to information and resources that they would not otherwise have had, and that they used their network to anything from obtaining information to get into conferences and courses. Most of our informant also had been recruited through their network. Almost all of our informants said that they never had been where they are today, if it had not been for their network.nb_NO
