| dc.description.abstract | Background: Worldwide breast cancer is the most common type of cancer among women (WHO, 2005), and the number of cases has increased markedly in the last 30årene (Fretheim, 2100). Given that this is a disease that affects so many, it is important that nurses have good knowledge in order to meet this group of patients and promote coping in challenging situations. Question: "How to promote coping in patients with newly diagnosed breast cancer?’ Purpose: To increase knowledge and understanding of what nurses can do to promote coping in patients with newly diagnosed breast cancer. Method: This thesis is written as a literature study, where data from existing literature and research are used to find answers related to the problem. Findings: The findings in articles and literature highlights that in order for a nurse to be able to promote mastering it is essential that she has an understanding of the patient in the situation, creating relationship to the patient, listens and allows for the patient to be able to express emotion, meets patients' needs for information in an honest and sincere manner, and treat the symptoms that may interfere with their ability to cope. | no_NO |
