Sammendrag
Why is it that some children do well in life despite being exposed to adverse childhood experiences, while others develop mental difficulties, somatic illness and/or bad adaption skills? In this assignment my focus has been on unaccompanied minors in Norway, and what professional caregivers can do to strengthen their resilience and resistance to developing difficulties now and later in life. The main factors I have been focusing on is trauma, risk factors, protective- factors, sense of achievement and the uncertainty of waiting for their case to be processed. To find out how the caregivers can be a resource in the lives of unaccompanied minors in Norway, I have connected these factors to methods such as trauma- informed care, and the fundamental principles within this method. I have also chosen to focus on the importance of having friends, and organized physical exercise, which goes under the method of network building. By studying research and academic literature regarding this topic, I have highlighted measures I found important in answering my question; “How can one strengthen the resilience of unaccompanied minors in Norway, by using trauma- informed care, while simultaneously focusing on the challenges related to the waiting process?”.
