Abstract

In recent years there has been an increase in how many people that has fled their home country because of war. For various reasons there are many people who are not safe in their own home country, and therefore has to flee. Many of these people comes to Europe and Norway as asylum seekers and apply for asylum. A group of asylum seekers that has received a particular attention, are the unaccompanied minor asylum seekers. These are under the age of 18 years and come to Norway without parents or other with parental responsibility. I want to take a closer look on how they manage here in Norway.

The purpose of this bachelor thesis has been to take a closer look at the unaccompanied minor asylum seekers at reception centres in Norway. I have looked at five different factors in which I thought would be relevant to better understand their everyday life. These are housing, schooling, waiting in reception centres, sleep and temporary residence permit. Further on, I looked at how these factors can affect mental health.

This bachelor thesis is a literature-based study. This means that I will base my bachelor thesis on previous research, and use literature that I find in books, articles and research reports.

I found that several of the factors I was looking at can affect mental health.
