User participation is a lawfulrightthat all young adultsunder child welfare have. As a social worker in residential care youwill have to work to let young adultscontribute and participate in decisions which consern their lives. In order to do this youwill have to establish a relasjonshipwith the young adults. This relationship depents on factors such as trust, good communicationand cooperation. The social worker must be credible in the way he or she acts and behaves around the young adults, if not the sosial workercan create distrust. General therapy in residential care canstrenghten, butalso hindre the user partisipation, this by not listeningto, nor take into account the wishes and meanings of the young adults. User participation is not a one-way street. To manage to use user participation satisfactory one is dependande on both the young adult and the sosial worker to cooperate, and together find the best solution to a situation or problem. The residential care and the sosial worker working there will also always have a deciding power, and often the final say in discussions. The importanse of user partisipation will then be to make the young adults wishes and meanings be heard and recognized. This bachelor thesis is built upon research on young adults experience with user participation in residential care, with the intension of looking at how a sosial worker in residential care can facilitateuser participation.
