Abstract

The purpose of this literature study is to show how many children in Norway who experience violence in close relationships. In addition, to see if the violence can have influence and any consequences for the attachment quality between children and parents. In addition, to find out what consequences violence may have on children’s development. To examine this problem there will be used different types of study’s and methods. There are two studies on extent and consequences of children living with violence from caregivers. The third study will look at how different factors can have an influence on attachment disorganization. The studies will be discussed through developmental psychological perspective and attachment theory. The results implicate that being exposes to violence in early childhood is significant associated with mental health problems in adolescence and adulthood. And the mental health problems related to feelings such as shame and guilt. Attachment disorganization is connected to the environment factors, such as the quality of mother and child relationships, neglect and maltreatment. There is a powerful relationship between children with attachment disorganization and behaviour problems in school, dissociation and psychopathology.
