Design and evaluation of a data space service for the Smart Ocean Platform
Abstract
The Smart Ocean Platform is a system of systems dedicated to the seamless
integration of diverse data sources and services, playing a role in advancing
Smart Ocean applications. The platform provides essential core services such as
data management, communications, authentication, and Application Programming
Interface (API) for efficient data delivery. The platform distinguishes itself
through its edge integration service, a feature that merges data and control with
underwater sensor networks to enable edge computing, a critical aspect of its
functionality.
Central to the platform’s philosophy is a commitment to interoperability, grounded
in adherence to robust standards. In line with this commitment, the platform
offers services such as data quality analysis, data fusion, and data transformation,
contributing to the establishment of a cohesive and standardized data
environment. At the forefront of the platform’s capabilities is the Smart Ocean
Data Space Service, serving as the primary repository for historical oceanic data
and facilitating access to both internal and external data sources. The expansive
array of data providers includes Underwater Sensor Network (UWSN), and
external data services, collectively enriching the depth and diversity of data
accessible through the Smart Ocean Data Space Service.
The Smart Ocean Platform goes beyond being a data repository. It stands
as a dynamic and interconnected platform that actively encourages collaboration,
innovation, and the seamless exchange of oceanic insights. By embracing
standards, harnessing edge computing, and integrating diverse data sources,
the platform positions itself at the forefront of technological advancements in
marine data management.
