The thesis is composed of five parts. In part 1 the thesis gives a presentation and discussion of rhetoric and what a modern rhetorical analysis should be. The presentation and discussion are partly done theoretically, partly through identifying central positions ans finally demostrating its approach through characteristic examples. Central for the thesis`rhetorical approach is to consider rhetorical analysis to be the study of doxa through new and willing interprestations of the rhetorical knowledge tradition. The Works of Mats Rosengren on doxa is an underlying inspiration. Futher on the the thesis argues that a rhetorical analysis should be considered as a discipline that studies. Strategic meaning creation done by identifiable actors. The analysis is here inspired by Roger Silverstone`s understanding of rhetorical analysis as identifying the process of communication as a bid or claim for attention and action, more or less open for negotiation and resistance, where rhetorical success Depends on a sharing or creation of common interest between the speaker and the audience. The implies a view of rhetorical communication as motivated, skilful, textual, interactive and politically asymmetrical.
